For race 2 #26 would be starting second on the grid behind #18
Larry Langmead but one place in front of championship rival #205 Mike
Norton with the team believing all Ross had to do in this race to win
the championship was to finish in front of Mike.

Off the line and Ross had a bit of a scruffy first
lap which gave Larry some breathing space but Ross gave himself a bit
of a talking to inside the #26 car and pulled away from #205 whilst keeping
pace with raceleader #18 until a few laps from the end when he settled
for 2nd place in what was a good fast race that everyone believed had
given Ross the championship. With an 11 point gap over Mike with 1 race
to go and the 10 point maximum for a win that seemed to be it…
