FEATURE - Developing a bodyshape:

Well, step one is to purchase an original road going version of the car you intend to base your racecar on. So, one trip to the scrapyard later and we have a bog standard Vauxhall Tigra. This will form the basis of ‘the plug’

A standard Tigra (not ours, pic courtesy of Google Images)

What we now need to do is make this standard Tigra into exactly the same shape we will eventually want our racecar to be. This is done in a variety of ways, but our preferred method is to cut large blocks of dense foam into blocks which we then stick to the road car to map out our basic shape. This foam is then covered in filler, lots and lots of filler! (30 gallons to be precise in our case)
