That's all folks... - 03 / 04 / 06

The final meeting of the TRAK Indoor series was held last weekend and the meeting certainly had a ‘last day of school’ feel to it as we drifted through the day, nobody too worried about the results, just having fun.

With the track being the same layout we’ve had for the previous few weeks now it didn’t take long to get into the groove and everyone was soon ready for heat 1. Justin disappeared into the distance to record the only 20 lapper of the round while I was a comfortable second with 19 laps in 304 seconds. As we moved on throughout the day Malc relegated me to third after the second round as I didn’t improve and Mike shot up from 10th to 2nd on the grid after the final qualifier to line up behind Justin. Malc would start third ahead of myself, Jason racing again in fifth ,Paul Rose and Sean in sixth and seventh with Wayne back in eighth and Chris rounding us out in ninth. The qualifying was great all day, very fast and competitive and everyone driving as you should in qualifying.

Justins all conquering Xray T2 and Seans Tamiya MSX with a shiny new shell ;-)

Onto the finals and with the motor skimmed and my left rear tyre glued back on (it had started coming off the rim in the final qualifier) the car was going very well and I could pass Malc in the early laps before setting off after Justin and Mike who were fighting it out at the front. Several minutes in and the three of us were very close as we began lapping more cars. I got stuck behind Paul Rose for a couple laps as I think he thought he may have been racing me but after finding a way through I wanted to close back in on the front two. It went wrong a little later though as I clipped the inside of a corner as I was looking to lap Wayne and dropped myself back. So Justin took the win although I’m told he had the close attentions of Mike right to the line, nice job Mike! I took third and was pretty pleased with the pace ahead of Malc in fourth who wished he’d also done his motor for the final! Sean took FIFTH ahead of Wayne and the rest.

All smiles throughout another great season of south west racing -)

With the outdoor season starting soon everyone got together for a bit of a meeting after the racing. After much debate (well, much joking around anyway) the top drivers decided to run super stock 19 turn motors for the summer to leave the 27 turn stock class for the beginners and those not feeling they are ready to mix it with the faster drivers. There was some pretty hard and comical campaigning for control motors from Justin but it was eventually decided that any 19 Turn would be allowed as per the BRCA list. Tyres will be any pre-glued CS on white rims in both 19 and 27 Turn classes. I think that’s what we ended up with anyway, it all went back and forth so much I could well have gotten some of that wrong so don’t hold me to it. All I do know is work will be underway on the track next Saturday afternoon (8th April) to get it ready for the season. Are we racing on April 9th? I don’t know, I had enough trouble remembering all the other stuff ;-)

See ya
