New car for Ross! - 06 / 07 / 05

Yes after nearly a year of trying to pick a new car, then deciding to keep the old one, then deciding on a new one, then having no funds I've got my hands on a brand new Xray FK05 as a 21st birthday present. (5th July - and the response of well wishes from this websies readers was a total of 1 by the way so you're lucky you're all getting an update this week! ;)

The new Xray nearing completion - yes yes I know - no shocks, wiring or front end yet! ;-)

I've got to say I felt a bit sad as I ripped the electrics out of my trusty TC3 this morning to test fit in the gleaming carbon chassis of the Xray. I'm sure I could hear the TC3 shouting abuse at me then sobbing uncontrollably, and I do get the feeling i'm going to come home one day to find the old TC3 has pushed the Xray off the shelf in disgust....but maybe i'm just going a bit strange ;)

Anyway, my nostalgic feelings for the TC3 aside it is a car that was designed 6 years ago - and judging from the incredibly huge amount of play in any joints of my TC3 I think the parts are 6 years old too unfortunatly. As I sat on my ass this morning ignoring my customers (*) and pieceing the new car together I couldn't help but be suprised every time I added a piece and it fitted perfectly, no play or wobbles, just a great precision fit. Just a shame the things American really or i'd have nothing to whinge about ;)

Look how pretty it is! Bling bling! Oh dear, I do apologise for that remark - I appear to have got carried away... (Not pictured - TC3 sobbing in the corner)

So as I sit here writing this the car is probably about 75% complete and I have a worryingly long list of items I need to order before I can finish the build - strapping tape, double sided tape, additive, diff lube, anti roll bars, spring sets, wire and some Hudy's that fit the car would be good too!!!

The plan is to shake down the car at Bashley on Saturday the 16th of July and then if all goes well race it the following day in round 5 of this years STCC. The TC3 will of course be on standby if the new car is not upto speed by the end of saturday.

* - This is of course a joke.............. we all know I have no customers to ignore! ;)
