Thrashnals finishes & some interesting news
- 07 / 03 / 08
Well another season has ended as last weekend saw us contesting
the eighth and final round of the 2007/08 Carpet Thrashnals at Chippenham. In
truth the championship positions were pretty much decided before the meeting
but everyone was still out to get a good result and end their championship on
a high.
Wayne was the man on a mission in qualifying as he took his
first pole of the season by one and a half seconds ahead of me. After all the
first corner pile ups we’ve had this season the organisers decided to
start the final with the cars spread out across the infield section of the track
which was a marvellous idea that worked well in all the finals, it would be
nice to use the same system more often I think :-)

SHOCK NEWS! Ross cleans car for first time in many years! lol

Back to the finals then and Wayne was quickly into his stride
at the front while I was struggling for grip in the early stages but after a
few laps I’d found the grip and it turned into a great race. Leaving a
gap to the rest of the cars me and Wayne traded fastest laps a couple times
and at mid race I thought I was just starting to close in a little but then
I clipped a barrier, it only cost maybe a second or so but we were so evenly
matched there was no catching him after that……although I did try
till the end, in fact my fastest lap was 13.80 and my last lap was 13.90 so
we were pushing each other all the way but in the end it was Wayne who took
his second win of the season by just under a second!

I can safely say that was the most enjoyable race of my season
and we both had huge grins for the rest of the day, well done mate :-)
With the racing over it was trophy time followed by a highly
embarrassing ‘photo session’ for the top three drivers in all classes
in front of various banners and signs. (Note to Wayne – we need to practice
our posed smiles for lengthly times like this, lol)

All that’s left to do is to congratulate all the various
winners, Tom Green in mod, Bobby who did the job in superstock at the final
meeting and Marcus Askell who won stock ages ago ahead of Wayne and myself,
WELL DONE!
So then, what’s next…
Well with all the major rule changes in our sport I’m
not really sure what to do for the best at the moment. I was planning on doing
the BTCC again this summer but now all these rules have changed I just don’t
know what class I’d run. Mod, Pro-Stock, Stock? And if stock do you choose
brushed or brushless, lipos or not? And do you know anything about brushless
and lipos because I sure don’t! lol I miss the good old days when we all
did 12 turn mod, that was your choice done but I digress, it looks like I’ll
have to wait and see what everyone else is doing then try and learn about the
new stuff, the last thing I think anyone wants to do is end up in a class nobody
else is doing having bought all the new equipment for it!
Of course, there is one other thing making this all a bit more
complicated for me at the moment and that’s this thing………

It’s dads hotrod and as you may know I’ve tested
it twice now and at last weeks test day at Bristol I got to be on track with
a few other hotrods which was quite helpful…and if I’m honest they
weren’t a whole lot faster than me, certainly not that much faster that
scared me off anyway. So I’ll be taking the plunge and racing it at a
proper 2 day meeting at Bristol on the 23rd / 24th March (well it’ll be
a 2 day meeting providing I don’t bin it the first day…or so long
as my arms don’t fall off, they were pretty sore after the last test day!)
If anyone would like to come along and laugh at me being the slowest thing on
track you’re more than welcome ;-)
Wish me luck and god forbid I’ll see you next time ;-)
