Thrashnals Round 7 - 11 / 02 / 08
Hello hello hello and welcome to the latest update. You’ll
have to excuse my cheery mood at the moment, you see it’s Monday morning
and I’m off all week with nothing to do but laze around, watch DVD’s,
fuss over my new car, play some online racing games and generally lark about
being pretty unproductive. So YAY! ;-)

Before we get to the business of the penultimate meeting of
the 2007/08 Carpet Thrashnals I feel the need to show you my lovely new car.
She’s absolutely awesome (and she’s defiantly a she as she’s
pretty curvy, lol) and once it’s been lowered a little bit and polished
she’ll be even nicer!

This weeks track
Back to the little cars though and with 2 meetings to spare
Marcus Askell had already wrapped up the stock championship and so would this
week be entering the superstock class, giving the rest of us a rare chance to
snatch a win. Despite the fact that me and Wayne usually finish runners up to
Marcus it was Nick Wayling this week who kept his cool in qualifying and despite
not having blistering single lap pace he was being deftly consistent and took
provisional pole after round 1 of qualifying and didn’t let it out of
his grasp all day as he took his first pole position. Congrats. Second place
was Wayne Belcher who was looking fast but slightly more prone to crashing than
usual on this weeks challenging track while Adrian took 3rd on the grid ahead
of me who I suppose was a fairly relieved 4th after being 10th before the final
qualifier.

New shell for Adrian
I don’t know why but my set-ups never seem to carry over
from one week to the next and I’m constantly making fairly big changes
to make the car work on the different layout tracks….maybe I’m just
not very good at driving round a car that isn’t perfect ;-) Still, by
that final qualifier the car was certainly fast and I managed a 13.85 second
lap which was fastest by some distance with nobody else breaking the 14 second
barrier…just a shame it was a bit tricky to drive and I planted it into
a barrier, oh well.

Fast but edgy, my HB Cyclone
Before we get to the finals I’ve just been sorting out
some of my RC gear and have put a couple items on ebay so pop by and have a
look :-) More things to be listed throughout this week ;-)

I altered the car a bit more for the final and it was spot on,
just a shame the first couple laps went so badly and I ended up pretty much
last. With the car feeling very good now though I could move up through the
field pretty easily and into 3rd place by the 4th minute although me and Adrian
did come together in the process as I got into the back of him after he had
a bit of a moment. The slightest tap sent Adrian’s car flying up over
mine which was a bit weird to be honest but just one of those things so sorry
anyway. Up at the front Nick survived a late roll to win by 1.6 seconds from
a hard charging Wayne, congrats on being only the third different winner this
season! :-) Meanwhile I came home in 3rd again with the fastest lap and cursing
that the race wasn’t a bit longer with Adrian 4th and then the rest.

Dad looks on from the packed grandstands... ;-)
The result effectively means Wayne has secured 2nd place in
the championship ahead of me while my third place is now safe ahead of Nick
and Adrian.

Meanwhile in the other classes Marcus was showing his talent
over in superstock with 2nd place behind Bobby. Just the four cars in mod this
week with Russell Williams cruising to the win with Mike very nearly in second,
well he was until the very last lap when the corner markers struck leaving Mikes
Mi3 on it’s roof and relegated to third. D’oh!

Assuming I don’t crash and die while testing Dad’s
car this Saturday I’ll see you all on February 24th for the final meeting
of the 2007/08 Thrashnals. Its trophy time folks!
