TRAK Round 8 Meeting Report - 06 / 02 / 07

Bloody computers! Sorry for this update being a little later than usual but my PC has decided to break down so I’m stuck with the old one for the minute which is doing my head in!!! So that’s my car, laptop and PC which have all broken down in the last few weeks, all while I’m getting used to my new job and moving house, it’s a bloody busy month! ;-) The RC car was causing some problems in practice as well, it wasn’t very smooth on acceleration, almost like you were jabbing the throttle on and off. It was the same in heat 1 which made it a bit of a pig to drive but Mike was having some problems of his own and Jason lost some time near the end with a roll so I still had pole after round 1. Mike and Jason of course having some pretty incredible results at Round 6 of the Thrashnals last weekend, Jason taking second overall from sixth on the grid and Mike qualifying third and fighting back to fifth with fastest lap after his car refused to move off the grid at the start. I’m so looking forward to this championship next year, I think one of our local lot could win it.

Jason contemplates his roll at the end of Round 1...... ;-)

For round 2 we’d found the source of the problem, one of the brush leads was touching the carbon prop. With this now cured the car was much better and we could go much faster in round 2 although Mike was upto second place ahead of Jason and only 0.04 of a second behind, and in truth he’d had a few ‘moments’ too so he was looking very fast. The final round of qualifying and I was on for pole until I took a little too much kerb with a minute to go and had the most feeble slow motion roll and ended up on my roof, in truth I had no need to be trying to go so fast towards the end of the race but I was trying too hard to get away from Wayne who was absolutely flying after I lapped him! Lol Do it from lap 1 dude! ;-) So as predicted Mike sped through for pole, which he defiantly deserved as his fastest lap blew everyone else away. I’d line up second ahead of Jason, Jamie who put in a great last qualifier to go fourth, then Adrian, Sean, Wayne and Paul Hopkins in eigth. Jon Parsons and Keith Jenkins were the unlucky ones missing out on the ‘A’s this week and would line up at the front of the ‘B’s

Waynes Cyclone which I like more and more every time I drive it :-)

Everyone had a clean start to the final as far as I could see and the top positions remained unchanged although Jason was right with me for a few laps until I could take advantage when he made a small mistake and get going and hold a bit of a gap to him. Mike had cleared off at the front and I was just thinking second place was looking fairly safe when the car just threw itself into the air as I turned into the hairpin. I’ve never seen anything like it, in fact Chris who was marshalling that particular corner looked as surprised as I did, I turned in as normal and the left hand tyres must have dug in on the edge of the tape or something and threw the car nearly straight up into the air before it crashed down onto it’s roof. Very odd, still Chris had it marshalled pretty quick and I could set about catching Jason and Jamie who had knocked me down to 4th. I could squeeze past Jamie just as I caught him as he ran a little wide but in passing him I got myself a little offline at the next corner and he was straight back through again! A few laps later and I’d spotted a place where Jamie took a little wider line than mine so I managed to jam it down the inside, not the prettiest overtaking move but I got through and we both continued. Now to catch Jason, I started clipping barriers a little but got away with it and got through the backmarker squabble between Paul, Wayne and Sean pretty quickly to catch Jason by the fourth minute. I tried for quite a few laps to get through, it was all very close until we touched coming out of a corner on the last lap which spun Jason into a barrier. As I waited for him Jamie streaked through to grab second place behind runaway winner Mike. Well that's it for this week, see you all next time.

I suddenly realise I very rarely have a picture on my car in these reports so here we go!
