Lacking speed at South West Series Round 10
- 28 / 02 / 05
Today was Round 10 of the South West Series held at Torquay.
The day didn't get off to the best start as Ross spun himself out on turn 1
of lap 1 in race 1 trying a new 'edgier' set-up. Thankfully things picked up
from there and after 5 minutes the pink and black car had caught up and moved
from seventh to third. The second and third rounds of qualifying saw little
improvement so going into the fourth and final round Ross was still in third
place behind runaway leader Russel and Rod with Malcolm close behind. Ross flew
off the grid into the final qualifier and after 3 and a half minutes was closely
purusing Rod, then the batteries screamed enough and Ross dropped back from
Rod and towards the fast closing Malcolm. Fortunatly Ross crept across the line
1.1 seconds ahead of Malcolm to retain third on the grid for the final.
At the start of the final Ross was instantly under pressure
from the faster Malcolm and Michael and after just over a minute Malcolm made
his way past only to throw it into the barriers at the next corner. Now it was
Michaels turn and he eventually passed Ross and began to pull away, however,
an accident for Michael dropped him back behind Ross with one and a half minutes
to go. Ross' batteries were dying off again by this point as Michael closed
up under accelertion and top speed. He eventually got past on the last lap with
a good move at the hairpin to take third despite Ross nearly pulling the place
back as they lapped a backmarker with just a few corners to go.
Following the problems with the batteries we've decided to order
3 new sets (at a bargain price) in preperation for our assault on the Clubmans
Cup which starts on March 20th in West London. A new motor will also have to
be ordered as the exisiting one is heavily worn after a full season of racing.
